How Reiki Works

Universal Life Force Energy

Rei means “Universal” and ki, or chi, in Chinese means “Life Force Energy”.

Reiki energy was rediscovered by Sensi Usui (born 1864 in Japan) and brought to the west (Hawaii) after WWII by Mrs Howayo Takata.

How Reiki Works

We have all experienced a form of Reiki in our every day life experiences. For example, we know some people who just seem to make us feel better by just being near them or just meeting someone in the street, you feel uplifted or energetic or happier. By contrast – other people seem to “bring you down”. Later you feel drained, irritable or in a dark mood. It is difficult for us to identify why this occurs.

Also a thought running through your mind can bring a certain emotion to the surface. The memory of an argument can re-create feelings of anger or defensive attitude. Sometimes these emotions are so powerful that we feel them physically, in our bodies, when our authority is challenged, we might feel a tightness in the solar plexus. We experience fear when frightened, not only by a quickening of our pulse, but a reaction deep in the pit of our belly.

Eastern esoteric wisdom offers us a way to understand these mysteries of energy and feelings, and to use that understanding in order to heal and balance ourselves.
